Application Consulting Is Graduate School Right for Me

For the past year, I’ve been preparing myself to apply to business school. I’ve spent countless hours doing GMAT prep with a GMAT tutor (i.e. an enormous amount of math problems), and reflecting a lot about why I was even pursuing business school admissions. After months of planning leading up to the January application cycle, I recently made the decision to chuck the whole thing, and opt out of the process. While the decision to bail on business school took me by surprise, and wrought a brief existential dilemma, I am now really clear about my decision to leave the league of aspiring business school students. The decision to apply to graduate school is a big one. Where you go to graduate school and what you study will set the course for your career and your network as a working professional. Also, graduate school costs time and money. Serious, serious money. A bad or rash decision will cost you the big bucks, to say nothing of anywhere from one to seven years of your life (depending on the kind of degree you pursue). Applying to graduate school is a decision that people make for all different reasons. Here are some of the reasons I initially grasped at, and some most common statements I’ve heard from other aspiring applicants: I will earn more money after graduating. This degree will help me advance my career. I feel pressure from my parents / job market to do this. This graduate degree will lead me to the right path, but I’m not sure what it is now. I am passionate about this field and would like to dedicate my career to it. I am looking for intellectual stimulation and I am somewhat interested in this field, so I would like to deepen my knowledge by getting this degree. I need to go to graduate school before I age out. Let’s evaluate each statement: I will earn more money after graduating. Okay, so most people would like to earn more money. But consider this: will your projected increase in salary balance out the debt you incur during graduate school? The degree will help me advance my career. Think hard about whether this is true or not. This is where I got stuck. I realized that I actually had the kind of job I would want after I graduated, so the logic didn’t follow. But, in some industries (medical school, for example), an advanced degree is very much necessary, even indispensable. Is your degree indispensable? I feel pressure from my parents / society to do this. If this rings true to you, then do not apply! Graduate school should be all about your professional and personal development. Do you want to be stuck doing something you aren’t interested in for several years, and possibly for the rest of your career? Don’t go through the business school admissions process because your Dad thinks it’s a good idea. Instead of applying, figure out what moves you need to make and go for it! This graduate degree will lead me to the right path, but I’m not sure what it is now. Many students go to graduate school hoping that they’ll come out being able to answer the question â€Å"What do I want to be when I grow up?† First of all, many of my fifty year-old pals still don’t know the answer to that question, and actually fell into their careers via a meandering path. Stop trying to fit into a box; you’ll get there! Secondly, if you don’t know what you’ll get out of the degree and how it will serve you, it’s an awfully expensive and time-consuming way to find out. Discover the answer by doing some research, or taking a risk and trying out jobs in a range of industries. I am passionate about this field and would like to dedicate my career to it. This is the best reason there is. Passionate about philosophy, electrical engineering, or linguistics? A PhD may very well be the right thing for you, so start to consider PhD admissions. Enjoy! I am looking for intellectual stimulation and I interested in this field, so I would like to deepen my knowledge. This is not airtight. There are a lot of ways to learn and if you’re merely curious, you risk becoming a dilettante with a very large bill when you graduate. Consider signing up for part-time coursework or hitting up the library before you decide to apply. I need to go to graduate school before I age out. In most cases, this is a fallacy. It’s true that certain types of degrees prefer younger applicants, but not in all, or most, fields. If your application makes a clear case for admission, you’ll likely get in at any age. In the weeks leading up to my decision to ditch the application process, I considered my reasons for going to school. My internal conflict led me to this question: how would graduate school help me do better at what I wanted to do when I graduated? I came to the conclusion that I really wasn’t sure. Signing up for $200K of debt and giving up 2 years of doing something that I enjoyed and was fulfilled by led me to realize that B-school no longer made sense for me. So, ask yourself the question: â€Å"How will graduate school help me do better at what I want to do when I graduate?† A clear answer will provide peace of mind, but also make you application more convincing and compelling if you do apply. I can tell you that I feel a whole lot better now, having made the decision to sit this one out. I didn’t realize that the decision I had hastily imposed on myself was really wearing me thin. What’s the moral of the story? Before you dive into test prep and applications, make yourself reason through the decision to apply. If you’ve already started to prepare your applications, now is the time to be real with yourself. It’s not easy to let go after investing time and energy in the process, but you know what? That's what economists call a â€Å"sunk cost.† (See? Who needs B-school?) The worst thing you can do with a sunk cost is double down on it. Instead, cut bait. You’ll move past it and you’ll probably give yourself big thanks in the future. And remember: there’s always next year!

He could be happy in the sense that, if Abigail is executed, then he and his wife can live happily. And, that his wife can live without the fear of Abigails presence. At this moment Procter has enough and wants to walk away, but she walks in the way and interrupts, she wants John to give her a word, a soft word, Abigail at his moment is becomes desirable and stops Johns smile. He knows what Abigails is getting to and tries to make a quick escape. He replies, NO, no, thats done with. He trying to make it clear to Abigail that the relationship is over, but lacks the courage to do so. Abigail, still not giving up, asks Procter what the real reason is behind him coming to the village. He laughs because she is positive that the only reason Proctor has come to the town, is due to Abigail. Proctor realises that the more that he talks to her, the more hell be interested in reforming his relationship with Abigail, and therefore moves her out of his path. He says with final emphasis to Put it out of mind As John begins to ignore her, Abigail becomes more desperate. She says, John-I-am waitinfor you every night. John again trying to end the conversation with Abigail says that she shouldnt keep any hope that their relationship is going to start again. Abigail then becomes angry. Elizabeth still wants John to live, but is still wants to be assured that the relationship between him and Abigail is over and this discussion leads her in to further confusion. From this we learn that John is willing to give his life just for his wifes trust. John then questions about Giles wife, asking if she has confessed. John then pleads his honesty with his wife; he becomes aggressive as well saying the whole the thing is all ridiculas. He says, It is hard to give a lie to dogs trying to break the ice between the two. He then again asks Elizabeth for her apology. Elizabeth, like always, declines it!Elizabeth then begins to give John her point of view. He says the John should ask for forgiveness from his soul before he asks her for forgiveness. John is still unsure and is now deeply hurt from what Elizabeth has to say. While John and Elizabeth are in deep sorrow, Harthone approaches and ask whether John is ready to confess. Harthone is very happy. Harthone moves away. Elizabeth is in tears, John asks him that why is she in tears; he is implying that she should be happy that John is going to die. At this moment John is fed up, angry and deeply hurt. He begins move around questioning himself that who is going to judge him, if Elizabeth isnt.He then begins to think whether good is evil and is still extremely hurt. At this moment Damforth enters with his companions. The judges want Johns confession to be written on the church wall, this amazes John. John confesses to have seen the devil. The judges write down Johns confession, and all that John has to is sign it. The Danforth wants John to sign another paper, John refuses, each time he is asked, his anger rises each time. John and Danforth begin to argue, to why John should sign the paper say Procter broke his knees and wept like a woman, say what you will from this two points are clearly obvious. One that he doesnt not want to sign the document and the other that he is just wants to get on with the execution. This could be due to the fact that Elizabeth isnt forgiving him. John still does not want to confess and creating a lot tension between himself and the judges. John then confesses to have lied and have sold his soul. Danforth then refuses to accept the confession. He threatens to give John the rope unless he gives the correct confession. The judges are outraged. John breaks in to tears. He say, Not weave a banner with, but white enough to keep it from such dogs. John makes a valid point that put the rest of the people to shame.

The Yellow Wall-Paper The short story "The Yellow Wall-Paper" written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is a cry for freedom. This story is about a woman who fights for her right to express what she feels, and fights for her right to do what she wants to do. The narrator in this short story is a woman whose husband loves her very much, but oppresses her to the point where she cannot take it anymore. This story revolves around the main character, her oppressed life, and her search for freedom. There are many male influences in this woman's life and although they may mean no harm, push her over the edge. The main character's husband, John, and her brother are well-known physicians. They use their power to control the main character, perhaps subconsciously, to feel what they think a woman should feel. For example, the woman tells the men she is sick but they believe differently. "John is a physician, and perhaps- (I would not say it to a living soul, of course, but this is dead paper and a great relief to my mind-) perhaps that is one reason I do not get well faster. You see he does not believe I am sick!"(507) The men are under the impression that what they say goes and therefore the woman has no choice but to follow. "He knows there is no reason to suffer and that satisfies him."(508) This quote illustrates that the men are in control. If they strongly believe nothing is wrong, then nothing must be wrong. It is a feeling of self satisfaction the men feel w! hen they are superior to the woman. The main character knows John loves her, but it is the oppression she feels that bothers her so. Her husband expresses his love for her but at the same time imposes his will on her. He hinders her from having her own thoughts. "?He is very careful and loving, and hardly lets me stir without special direction?"(507) The last few words of this quote show how John did not let her have any freedom because he was always there. John acts as if he knows what the main character feels at all times. The main character had absolutely no freedom, for her husband would let nothing happen unless he was there to supervise. An example of this treatment is when she wanted to get out of the house and visit some cousins, but John insisted she really did not want to go. "Dear John! He loves me very dearly, and hates to have me sick. I tried to have a real earnest reasonable talk with him the other day, and tell him how I wish he would let me go and make a visit to Cousin Henry and Juli! a. But he said I wasn't able to go, nor able to stand it after I got there?"(511) The main character understands her husband loves her, but he insists on her doing what he wants her to do.
